Netanyahu accepts Trump’s proposal for peace in Gaza | ABC NEWS
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has agreed to a 20-point peace plan proposed by US President Donald Trump to end the war in Gaza.
The US leader says Israel has Washington’s ‘full backing’ to implement the proposal if Hamas rejects it.
The plan includes an immediate end to the war in Gaza, the release of all remaining Israeli hostages and 2,000 Palestinian prisoners, Israel’s withdrawal of troops from the strip and the distribution of aid through the UN.
Under the proposal, Hamas must surrender all military capabilities and a governing role in the enclave, while a transitional governing body will be established with international leaders including former British prime minister Tony Blair on the board.
North America correspondent Kamin Gock says the plan features ‘red lines’ for both Israel and Hamas but Middle East correspondent Matthew Doran says the Israeli prime minister found it ‘palatable enough’.
