Nepal-Tibet floods: Nervous families wait for news of missing loved ones as rescue efforts continue
An expectant mother was among those rescued in Nepal’s disaster zone four days after the nation experienced deadly floods. Shanti Gurung said she was worried she would not be able to have a “normal delivery” but has been brought to safety by helicopter.
Authorities said the death toll rose to nearly 800 on Sunday, with more than 3,000 people missing on both sides of the Nepal-China border after a torrent of ice, rock, mud and debris swept through mountain valleys and rivers on Wednesday, causing widespread devastation.
The survivors remain in desperate need of basic amenities like clean drinking water and medical supplies.
