Minister responds to concerns raised in SBS special series on Pacific Islander workers scheme
Reporter Catalina Florez speaks to Pacific Island Affairs Minister Pat Conroy about issues raised in an SBS special series on disengaged PALM scheme workers – a federal government program which many say puts Pacific Island and Timorese workers at risk of exploitation in regional Australia.
There are more than 7,000 workers who have disengaged from the Federal Government’s Pacific Australia Labour Mobility scheme.
Many have stayed working here either un-lawfully or on bridging visas.
