Meta has agreed to a $23 billion court settlement in the United States that will impose strict limitations on Facebook and Instagram use for Americans under 18. The settlement includes a daily two-hour access limit, a night-time dark mode blocking access for six hours, hidden likes, banned beauty filters, and no school-day notifications, though parents can opt their children out of these restrictions. The funds will support mental health schemes, child counsellors, and after-school activities, following a trial that accused Meta of hooking minors, harvesting their data, and causing harm.
