Melbourne Metro Tunnel opens after nearly 10 years in making | ABC NEWS
Melbourne’s Metro Tunnel has officially welcomed passengers for the first time today after nearly a decade of construction.
The project, which added five new underground stations to Victoria’s rail network, connects the Pakenham-Cranbourne line in the city’s east to the Sunbury line in the west.
Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan hailed the milestone as a testament to thousands of workers involved in the project.
ABC reporter Natalie Schapova describes the festive atmosphere on the first metro services to go through the tunnel.
