Melbourne cancer therapy shows 100% lab cure rate | 7NEWS

Cancer researchers at Melbourne’s Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre have received nearly $18 million in federal government funding to advance a breakthrough CAR T-cell therapy that has achieved almost 100% cure rates for solid tumours in laboratory settings. The therapy engineers patients’ own immune cells to target cancer cells and release additional proteins that activate a stronger immune response. Clinical trials will begin with myeloma patients within four to five years, with the ultimate goal of treating solid tumours including breast and lung cancers, which account for approximately 90% of all cancer cases.
