A Melbourne CBD bar, Bar Bambi in ACDC Lane, has been targeted for the third time in an ongoing series of hospitality venue fire bombings. Criminal syndicates, believed to be operating from overseas locations including the Middle East, are using encrypted apps similar to Airtasker to recruit teenagers aged 14-16 to carry out the attacks. The latest incident involved diesel being poured and an attempted arson, with minimal damage due to the perpetrators’ inexperience with accelerants, while some bar owners are now installing bollards, shipping containers, or considering closing their businesses entirely.
