More than a million people are expected to gather across Australian cities for New Year’s Eve 2026 celebrations, with Sydney hosting harbour fireworks, Melbourne presenting laser light shows, and Brisbane featuring new drone displays. Unprecedented security measures include over 2,500 officers in Sydney and Melbourne, with random weapon searches in Adelaide. A one-minute silence will be observed at 11pm for victims of the Bondi terror attack, while federal police confirm the Bondi gunman and his father acted alone after investigating their month-long Philippines visit.
