Marles claims net migration rate down 45 per cent since COVID

Defence Minister Richard Marles says the government has a keen eye on migration and is shifting its focus to skilled migration in the aftermath of COVID.

“What’s important here … is we’ve been working on this issue from the moment we’ve come to government and what we inherited in the aftermath of the pandemic was a very significant migration rate,” Mr Marles told News24.

“We’ve brought down the net migration rate down by 45 per cent since that moment.”
