Local hero saves surfer after shark attack | 7NEWS
A surfer, Mel Ismail, lost part of his leg in a shark attack at Geraldton’s Glenfield Beach. Local surfer Shannon Dunn paddled into danger to rescue the injured man, dragging him to shore where bystanders applied a makeshift tourniquet before rushing him to hospital. Mel was treated at Geraldton Health Campus’s newly opened intensive care unit and is now recovering, while fisheries officers examine his surfboard to determine the shark species responsible.
