Liberals propose 10-year jail terms for statue vandals | 7NEWS
Opposition leader Jess Wilson has announced a Liberal policy to introduce jail sentences of up to 10 years for vandals who deface war memorials and statues in Victoria. The policy would also require offenders to pay the full cost of repairs, addressing at least 18 incidents that have occurred across Victoria since 2020 without charges being laid. Premier Jacinta Allan has criticised the announcement, suggesting it is either based on a misunderstanding of the justice system or is politically motivated.
