An emergency department nurse at Brisbane’s Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital was assaulted by an intoxicated patient outside the facility at 2am.

The male patient targeted the healthcare worker in an unmonitored area after being asked to leave for disruptive behaviour.

The nurse successfully defended himself using more than 10 years of martial arts experience.

Healthcare staff warned that workplace violence against medical workers is completely unacceptable and should never be tolerated.
