JD Vance tears up filling in as host of the Charlie Kirk Show.

US Vice President JD Vance presented an episode of The Charlie Kirk Show, demonstrating how close the conservative activist was to the Trump administration.

He has said the government will “go after” organisations that “foments, facilitates and engages” in violence in the wake of the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

That’s despite there so far being no connection between the killing and any specific organisations and indications the shooter may have acted alone. Marks on the weapons suspected of being used suggest the shooter was deep into online culture.

Mr Vance also encouraged people to dob in colleagues to bosses who “celebrated” Kirk’s death.

Mr Vance was presenting the first episode of The Charlie Kirk Show following the host’s death last week.

“You have the crazies on the far left who are saying (the Trump administration are) going go after constitutionally protected speech,” he said on the show.

“No, no, no, we’re going go after the NGO (non-governmental organisations) that foments, facilitates, and engages – that’s not OK.

“Violence is not OK in our system, and we want to make it less likely that that happens.”

But he said that the government would “work to dismantle the institutions that promote violence and terrorism in our own country”. He also hit out a progressive billionaire George Soros who is a frequent target of people on the right.

Mr Vance did add that “We can thank God that most Democrats don’t share these attitudes” while adding that “something has gone very wrong with a growing and powerful lunatic fringe on the far left”.

Mr Vance cited a YouGov poll that said 24 per cent of “very liberal” voters said it was “acceptable” to be happy about an opponent’s death while only 3 per cent of “very conservatives” thought the same.

“People on the left are much likelier to defend and celebrate political violence. This violence doesn’t come from nowhere,” said Mr Vance. He mentioned a number of Republicans who had faced political violence but did not mention Democrats who have also been victims of political violence.

The same YouGov poll found that overall only 8 per cent of Americans would be happy about the death of an opponent while 90 per cent of liberals would not be happy with celebrating an opponent’s death.

Also on the show, White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller said the White House was working on a “organised strategy to go after left-wing organisations that are promoting violence”.

“With God as my witness, we’re going to use every resource we have … to identify, disrupt, dismantle, and destroy these networks and make America safe again for the American people”.

Mr Miller said the administration would look to “uproot and dismantle these terrorist networks”.

He added that there were “organised riots, organised street violence” and there was “vast domestic terror”.

The comments will lead to concerns that the current administration could label a wide degree of opposition as somehow fomenting violence.

Just weeks ago, Mr Miller called the Democrat Party a “domestic, extremist organisation”.

There is no evidence that a “vast domestic terror” network led by the “left wing” was behind Kirk’s killing.

On the show, Mr Vance also said people should dob in those who have “celebrated” Kirk’s death to employers – with the explicit inference they will then be fired.

“When you see someone celebrating Charlie’s murder, call them out, and hell, call their employer,” he said.

“We don’t believe in political violence, but we do believe in civility, and there is no civility in the celebration of political assassination”.
