The Israel Defense Forces have announced they are deploying troops to points in southern Lebanon, marking a major escalation in its campaign against the Iran-backed group Hezbollah.
It comes after Hezbollah fired projectiles at Israel, in a move it says was “defensive”, prompting the Israeli military to conduct strikes in Lebanon against what it says were Hezbollah sites.A spokesperson for the IDF says the troop deployment to the “borderline area” was to “enhance forward defence”.
