US authorities are investigating if there was any criminal behaviour involving interactions between Open AI’s ChatGPT app and a man accused of killing two people and injuring six others in a shooting at Florida State University (FSU) last year. In comes on the heels of a big week in the tech world, after YouTube suspended the account of a pro-Iranian group that released Lego-style AI propaganda videos criticising the US and Donald Trump. There are calls for greater reguations across the industry, as Australia issued transparency notices to Roblox, Minecraft, Epic Games’ Fortnite and Valve’s Steam, asking them to detail the ways they’re protecting children from online predators.
