Inquest begins into tasering death of aged care resident | 7NEWS
An inquest has begun into the death of 95-year-old Clare Nowland, who died in May 2023 after then-police officer Kristian White tasered her inside the Yallambe Lodge aged care home in Cooma. The great-grandmother was holding a small steak knife and moving towards police with the aid of a walker when she was tasered, falling backwards and suffering fatal head injuries. The inquest will examine whether police, paramedics and aged care staff are properly trained to respond to dementia-related behaviour, with an intensive care paramedic testifying the use of a taser was excessive and a lawyer representing the Police Commissioner conceding a taser should not have been used.
