Australia’s headline inflation rate surged to 4.6% in March 2022, the highest level in three years, driven primarily by the global oil crisis and conflict in the Middle East. Fuel prices experienced the largest monthly increase on record, rising 32.8%, with diesel jumping 41% before the halving of fuel excise. The Reserve Bank is expected to raise interest rates, with underlying inflation holding steady at 3.3% and Treasury projecting inflation will peak even higher.
