Hunter Biden opens up on father’s cancer battle and presidential pardon | 9 News Australia

Hunter Biden has spoken candidly about his father Joe Biden’s aggressive prostate cancer diagnosis and the controversial presidential pardon that spared him from federal prison.

In an emotional interview with BBC Newsnight, the 56-year-old broke down while describing former US President Joe Biden as the “centre of our family,” acknowledging the debilitating and painful nature of his father’s spreading cancer. Joe Biden was diagnosed in May 2025, just four months after leaving the White House.

Hunter Biden also reflected on his highly publicised past, admitting to severe substance abuse including smoking crack cocaine and heavy alcohol dependence. Addressing the fallout from his legal troubles, he defended the full presidential pardon granted by his father during his final weeks in office, describing himself as “eternally grateful” while acknowledging his unique privilege.

Reporter Lily Greer reports on the fallout, Donald Trump’s political attacks, and Joe Biden’s upcoming memoir detailing his time in the Oval Office.
