Hume stresses robust debate remains vital as PM calls for political temperature to be lowered
Deputy Liberal Leader Jane Hume says scrutinising legislation and maintaining robust debate remain vital to holding the government to account, as Prime Minister Anthony Albanese calls for a calmer political environment.
“I know that the prime minister keeps asking Australians to turn the temperature down, but that doesn’t mean that we should turn down our voices; in fact, robust debate and making sure that governments are held to account is the job here,” Ms Hume told News24.
“It’s an important part of making sure that people can resolve differences without resorting to violence; that’s why we are here.”
