A fragile four-year truce in the Middle East has completely shattered after Yemen’s Houthi movement launched a wave of ballistic missiles and explosive drones at Saudi Arabia’s Abha International Airport. The dramatic escalation was triggered after the Saudi-backed Yemeni military bombed the runway at Sanaa International Airport to forcefully block an unsanctioned Iranian Mahan Air flight carrying Houthi officials. Calling the airport strike a “blatant act of aggression,” Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree announced the official end of the de-escalation period and issued a chilling warning to international commercial airlines to avoid Saudi airspace entirely.
