Two people are fighting for life with severe burns after an arson attack on a Gold Coast home in Hope Island, with police investigating the incident as domestic violence related. A boat carrying approximately a dozen asylum seekers, reportedly Chinese nationals, has been intercepted by Australian Border Force off the coast of far north Queensland near Cape York Peninsula. New government tax changes take effect, including a $5 weekly tax cut and increased minimum wage, while fuel excise is reintroduced at half rate and NBN and postal services see price increases.
