Gavin Newsom sparks controversy over bizarre Biden claims and hypocrisy
California Governor Gavin Newsom has been slammed after bizarrely claiming he “never had” doubt about former US President Joe Biden’s mental capacity to run the country.
In an interview on NBC’s ‘Meet the Press’, Newsom was questioned about whether he had concerns about the decline of Joe Biden in the Oval Office.
NBC’s Kristen Welker asked Newsom if he believed Joe Biden was capable of serving until 2029, to which Newsom said his focus was on making sure Trump didn’t come back into power.
Newsom said he had one exception relating to an interaction he had with Biden that gave him “pause”.
“The one exception … was the fundraiser in Southern California – and all of us were a little taken aback. But we were mindful that [Biden] had been in Europe twice in about a week,” Newsom said.
The fundraiser took place before Biden’s disastrous presidential debate in 2024 against Donald Trump, which resulted in the then US president dropping out of the race.
