Fertiliser costs threaten to double vegetable prices | 7NEWS


Australian farmers face mounting pressure from dry conditions and rising costs affecting winter planting decisions. Fertiliser costs have soared 50 percent in some markets, jumping from $800 to $2,000 per tonne, potentially doubling vegetable prices for produce with shorter life cycles including leafy greens, zucchinis, capsicums and eggplants. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese recently secured a deal with Indonesia for 250,000 tonnes of urea to help address the cost pressures.
