The Federal Court has ruled Victoria Police’s decision to declare Melbourne’s CBD a designated area for six months was invalid and unlawful.
The declaration gave police more stop and search powers.
The ruling followed a legal and constitutional challenge the Human Rights Law Centre mounted against Victoria Police in 2025.
