Fatal shark attack at Perth beach | 7NEWS
A swimmer was fatally attacked by a six-metre shark approximately 15 metres from shore at Sorrento Beach, Perth, while doing backstroke during a morning swim with a friend. The victim, believed to be a member of local surf lifesaving clubs, was dragged from the water and mauled in front of witnesses, with the recovery effort stretching into its sixth hour. The incident follows another shark attack north of Perth near Geraldton, where surfer Mel Ismail lost part of his leg, leaving beachgoers across Western Australia fearful as summer approaches.
