Expert dismisses ‘alarmist’ reports Trump could use Taiwan in China deal
Hudson Institute Senior Fellow John Lee dismisses claims US President Donald Trump would use Taiwan as a bargaining chip in negotiations with China.
“The Taiwanese will always be a little bit afraid because they’re relying so much on the Americans to protect them,” Mr Lee told Sky News host Peta Credlin.
“But there’s been a lot of, I think, wrong and alarmist comments about how Donald Trump will trade Taiwan away for a deal.
“There’s no indication of that … that’s never, ever been an issue.”
