Fifty years ago, crossing the Nullarbor between South Australia and Western Australia was no easy road. The last unsealed section of the lengthy Eyre Highway was finished in the spring of 1976.
84-year-old Lance Sturtzel reckons he has crossed the Nullarbor about 100 times since his first trip in 1964, drawn to the peace and quiet of the endless outback road with just himself and his dog, Thunda.
