English village revolts against immigrant housing plan with UK independence bid
Spiked Online Editor Tom Slater details how a small English village is considering independence from the UK after plans were confirmed to convert a nearby military base into a home for 1,250 asylum seekers.
“This village in Oxfordshire, Piddington, is absolutely tiny; you’re talking about hundreds of people; it’s going to be dwarfed effectively by the group of asylum seekers/illegal migrants,” Mr Slater told Sky News host Jaimee Rogers.
“Obviously, this declaration of independence is symbolic, broadly speaking, but I think it just shows that communities up and down the country don’t want to put up with this anymore.”
