Drifting planet found consuming a record six billion tonnes a second | ABC NEWS
Astronomers have detected a lone planet 620 light years away from Earth guzzling gas and dust surrounding it at a record rate of six billion tonnes per second.
It’s called a rogue planet because it’s free-floating and does not orbit a star.
The European Southern Observatory’s Very Large Telescope detected the record-breaking growth spurt in the young rogue planet, which is officially named Cha 1107-7626.
