Dramatic footage captured the moment rescue crews helped saved a dog from a vehicle trapped in floodwaters in Katherine, Northern Territory, on Wednesday, March 11.
The NT Emergency Service said rescue crews responded to reports of a vehicle stuck on a creek crossing west of Katherine. A passing-by helicopter pilot dropped a police officer to help the stranded driver and passenger before crews returned to retrieve the dog.
Footage released by NT Emergency Service shows the dramatic rescue unfold. Video shows the helicopter maneuver close to the vehicle before an officer lifts the dog aboard.
According to reports, the Katherine River rose to its highest level since 1998 over the weekend as large swathes of the Northern Territory suffered severe flooding.
