‘Distorting the truth’: Beijing denounces Taiwanese President’s National Day ‘freedom’ speech
Beijing has denounced Taiwan President Lai Ching-te’s remarks in a National Day speech.
Mr Lai said his nation cherishes peace but will not give up its freedom, and there must be respect for the right of Taiwan’s people to exist.
Beijing fired back, saying the speech “distorted the truth”.
