The Alef flying car company gently teased Tesla for the flashy flight demonstration video it posted to X on Thursday, saying it was glad to have Tesla join the “flying car race.”
Footage by Alef Aeronautics shows an Alef car flying over several Tesla vehicles, including a Roadster, in San Mateo, California.
“Welcome, Tesla, to the flying car race. We’ve been here alone for 11 years,” Alef CEO Jim Dukhovny said in a statement shared with Storyful. “Having competition is a good thing, especially from such a major company as Tesla.”
According to Alef, the video was released to coincide with Tesla’s flying Roadster demonstration, as well as to celebrate the Alef car’s 1,000th flight.
“For vertical takeoff Alef uses distributed electric propulsion (DEP), while the Roadster is scheduled to use thrusters,” Alef said in a press release.
