Coalition visa cuts risk breaching India trade deal | 7NEWS
The Coalition’s proposed abolition of temporary graduate visas has drawn warnings from the education sector about potential breaches of Australia’s trade agreement with India. Under the current agreement signed by former Trade Minister Dan Tehan, Indian students can stay and work in Australia for up to four years after graduation. The Coalition plans to more than halve net migration for two years before settling on a target of 160,000, with only limited carve-outs for regional, PhD, health and education students.
