The Coalition has announced a policy to restrict welfare access for new migrants to Australia until they gain citizenship, affecting 17 different welfare programmes including the age pension, NDIS and JobSeeker. The policy would be grandfathered for existing non-citizens. Opposition leader Angus Taylor has also revealed plans to cut net overseas migration by 40 per cent to below 200,000, linking the reduction to housing availability.
