Dramatic footage shows the man known as “Bato” being chased through parliament corridors by National Bureau of Investigation agents after his warrant for crimes against humanity was unsealed on Monday, May 11. The standoff escalated on Wednesday, May 13, when shots rang out inside the complex after the former police chief urged supporters to mobilise and block his imminent arrest. Mr dela Rosa was the lead enforcer of former president Rodrigo Duterte’s bloody drugs war, which resulted in more than 12,000 deaths. Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano has placed the building on lockdown as officials investigate the source of the gunfire.
