Bondi Junction heroes honoured with bravery awards
Two years after a mass stabbing at a Sydney shopping centre, eight selfless people who risked their own lives to help others have been recognised for their bravery.
Six people were killed and a dozen injured when Joel Cauchi, 40, went on a six-minute stabbing spree at Westfield Bondi Junction on 13 April 2024.
On the second anniversary of the tragedy, Governor-General Sam Mostyn announced the special Australian Bravery Decorations honours list, which recognises the selfless acts of the eight people.
“From different parts of Australia, and around the world, these bravery honourees are characterised by their selfless, courageous, and determined response in unspeakable and horrific circumstances,” she said.
“Every one of them showed strength, and profound courage, as they placed the safety of others above their own, demonstrating ultimate care for others.”
The honours included six bravery medals, two of which are posthumous, and two commendations for brave conduct.
