Bondi Beach shooting: Antisemitism envoy says political parties shouldn’t ‘weaponise’ tragedy
Antisemitism envoy Jillian Segal says the Bondi Beach shooting should not be “used for political purposes” by individuals, political parties and political action groups.
“This is a time to come together. That does not mean that we should just say nice things and don’t do anything,” she said.
Segal called for Australians to educate themselves about antisemitism and embrace the Jewish community, who were celebrating the start of the Hanukkah festival when two gunmen allegedly opened fire at Bondi Beach on Sunday.
Sixteen people, including a child, died after a father and son, aged 50 and 24, allegedly opened fire on crowds at Bondi around 6.40pm on Sunday.
The father was among those killed and the son is in critical but stable condition in hospital.
