Bill Cassidy confirms support for Todd Blanche as attorney general
US Republican Senator Bill Cassidy has confirmed he will vote to confirm Todd Blanche, clearing the way for his appointment as the attorney general.
Mr Blanche’s appointment was in doubt after Republican Senators Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins announced their opposition.
The Grand Old Party’s leadership in the US Upper House is now expected to move forward with a vote after Mr Cassidy’s support.
The Senator from Louisiana had previously shared concerns over the politicisation of the Justice Department under US President Donald Trump.
