Behind these airlocked doors, Australian scientists study deadly diseases | ABC News Breakfast
News Breakfast’s Nate Byrne goes to the CSIRO Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness (ACDP) in Geelong to see where scientists handle highly transmissible and potentially lethal pathogens, including Ebola and Hendra virus.
First opened 40 years ago, the centre is one of only a handful of high-containment facilities in Australia, and the only one equipped to handle infected livestock at the highest biosecurity level.
At the ACDP, scientists undertake research into a range of animal and zoonotic diseases — those that spread between animals and humans — to protect livestock, wildlife and people from infectious and emerging disease threats.
