New research from Monash University in Melbourne challenges the concept of ‘baby brain’, finding no measurable difference in cognitive performance between parents and non-parents up to two years postpartum. Despite 80% of mothers reporting memory lapses and cognitive fog after childbirth, researchers discovered these feelings of forgetfulness are actually linked to sleep deprivation, stress and the mental load of parenting rather than actual brain performance decline.
