Avalon Airport in Melbourne was evacuated for four hours after security screening detected a suspicious item in a passenger’s bag during a routine check before a Sydney flight. The bomb squad was called in to investigate what turned out to be a laser hair removal device and hot chocolate container that had been suspiciously packaged. Two flights were cancelled and hundreds of passengers were moved approximately one kilometre from the terminal before the all-clear was given.
