Australia faces a critical shortage of 80,000 nurses by 2035, with young nurses leaving the profession in droves due to workplace violence and inadequate support for new graduates. Healthcare worker assaults have doubled in the last decade, now representing the second leading cause of hospitalisation among healthcare workers. The Federal Government has released a National Nursing Workforce Strategy to address retention and attraction issues, while approximately 70,000 registered nurses remain outside the active workforce.
