Are major earthquakes happening more frequently? | SBS Explains

The powerful earthquake that struck Colombia on 10 August was the strongest recorded in the 21st century.

Worldwide, it’s the tenth earthquake of 7-magnitude or more to occur in this year.

And while it may seem as though such events are becoming more frequent, experts say we’re “on track” to meet the global average.
