Apprentice’s death captured in released roof collapse footage | 7NEWS
A Perth court has released CCTV footage showing the moment a five-storey building roof collapsed at Curtin University, killing 23-year-old apprentice carpenter Jonathon Hartshorn and injuring another worker in a fall of more than 20 metres. Contractor Elsdon pleaded guilty after six years, admitting to fabricating faulty steel frameworks, ignoring mandatory compliance testing, and failing to employ qualified welders. The company faces only a fine, as Western Australia’s industrial manslaughter laws were not yet in place at the time of the incident.
