Ancient Indian art inspires cosmic creation in Sydney
Artists Mayur and Tushar Vayeda from the Indigenous Warli community in Maharashtra, India, are bringing ancient stories about nature, the universe and creation to life in a mural at Powerhouse Parramatta, Sydney.
In the absence of a written script, the Warli community use art to help one of India’s oldest belief systems live on.
“A lot of inspirations we are bringing from the story of the creations and Warli belief systems of how we are connected to the nature and the cosmos,” Mayur said.
The brothers are committed to preserving their culture while finding new ways to share it with modern audiences.
Since June, they have used traditional Warli painting techniques, geometric shapes and lines to create a celestial artwork for Powerhouse Parramatta’s immersive exhibition, Task Eternal.
