Albanese proposes one week off if Australia wins FIFA World Cup
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has suggested giving “everyone a week” if the Socceroos win the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
But Albanese did preface the idea by sharing that public holidays are actually decided by the state and territory governments.
During the 2023 FIFA World Cup, Albanese found himself in hot water with NSW Premier Chris Minns after sharing plans for a national public holiday if the Matildas won the top prize.
