Albanese announces Commonwealth Royal Commission into Bondi terror attack

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has announced a Royal Commission into antisemitism after the Bondi Beach terrorist attack.

In recent weeks, the Jewish community, business leaders, sports figures, and even some members of his own administration have all called for a Commonwealth inquiry.

According to Mr Albanese, the Royal Commission will focus on four main themes, including “investigating the nature and prevalence of antisemitism”.

The government has appointed former High Court justice Virginia Bell to chair the Royal Commission, with over 12 years of experience serving on Australia’s highest court.

Premier Chris Minns has confirmed the planned New South Wales Royal Commission will not proceed.
