Actor Susan Sarandon detained while protesting near UN headquarters in NYC
Actor Susan Sarandon was detained by police in New York on Thursday (September 24) during a protest demanding an end to US arms support for Israel.
Officers helped Sarandon to her feet and detained her near UN headquarters. Police also detained another demonstrator, whose wrists were secured with zip ties.
The protest, organized by Jewish Voice for Peace, took place at East 39th Street and First Avenue as world leaders gathered for the UN General Assembly.
Organizers said the action was timed to coincide with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s scheduled address to the assembly.
