Australia’s only silicon manufacturer to exit US after extra 40% tariff | ABC NEWS
Australia’s only silicon manufacturing company, Simcoa, has hit back at Trump’s tariffs after being forced to end its US operations. The company is winding up its American business after being slapped with an additional 40% tariff on imports into the United States.
Simcoa’s vice president of site services and marketing, David Miles, says the tariffs effectively exclude the company from America from August 14 and has questioned the worth of Australia’s critical minerals agreement with the US.
For now, Mr Miles says the company will look towards South-East Asia and India, and maintain operations in Europe.
