Concerns over the growing US military presence in Palau

The United States is establishing and reinforcing its military positions across the Pacific, including on the tiny nation of Palau.

The tiny Pacific nation of Palau is almost 13,000kms from the United States, but is widely regarded as having a higher per capita rate of military enlistment in the US army than most US states and territories.

While some Palauans support the significant increase to the US’ military presence, others say there is an unequal relationship between the two countries.
